Something amazing has happened in Leicester thanks to Ruth at The https://unglamorous.co.uk/ Collective. Not only has she motivated loads of women to form bands (12 and counting), write music and perform live but their story has gone global and is now inspiring women all over the world!
She says: “Being a great band isn’t always about high-level musicianship. When you have something to say, passion, energy and you’re challenging stereotypes, you can be awesome.”
This International Womens’ Day (Wednesday March 8th) bands from the Unglamorous Collective will be perform at Firebug. For many of them it will be their first time on stage. Everyone is welcome but we want to ensure it is the most welcoming and supportive environment possible, so bring positivity and energy, shout, cheer and give generously to their fundraiser!
They are launching the Unglamorous Sampler – which will be a vinyl, CD and digital album featuring 12 tracks by 8 of these bands released later this year.
Come at 5pm and help us celebrate, donate to our fundraiser and meet the bands. From 5.30pm, the free live music will start, combining brand new beginner acts and the debut of Boilers, along with Caroline McLavy, Venus Attax, Glitch Magnet, Virginia’s Wolves, Dada Women, The Wonky Portraits, Velvet Crisis and The Verinos.
Support and encourage ordinary women to start creating music, bringing a whole new edge and worldview to alternative garage music.
Everyone welcome!
