Things Which We Are Doing This Fortnight.

Here at Firebug we always like to get involved with things going on in and around the city. We’ve been a part of Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival, The Leicester and Summer Sundae Fringes, and Handmade Festival – and this year we’re adding a couple more to our proverbial portfolio. Here they are, along with some other important dates for your diary…

20TH JULY : PLUG AT THE BUG WITH JUNIORS EP LAUNCH

2013Plug, Our bi-monthly celebration of ridiculous music returns sporting awesome live music and DJs playing anything they can get their hands on – as long as you can dance to it. It’s like the ultimate headphone disco, but with the volume turned up to 11. Principally we’re talking Hip-Hop, Punk, Alt-Pop and rock, but you can expect the unexpected. Beyonce meets Limp Bizkit meets Taking Back Sunday and The Beastie Boys. Our DJs LOVE music, whatever form it takes – which is exactly what makes this night so special.

Kicking things off this month will be the fantastic JUNIORS who are launching their brand new Oscillations EP, produced by the band and mastered by the man behind Blakfish’s ‘See You In Another City’ EP. Masters of the mathematically challenging riff and pop chorus, we fully expect great things from the chaps. Support comes from Feedback voice and guests.

haiku-salut-640x384

Our venue manager, John, rates Haiku Salut’s debut album as one of the best records of 2013 so far, and allegedly he knows what he’s talking about. We’re very pleased to welcome them back to Firebug after a glorious set at Sweepeing the Nation’s indie pop alldayer earlier in the year. The band describe themselves as Baroque-Pop-folktronic-neo-classical-something-or-other, and we can only assume we agree with that. We wholeheartedly recommend you attend this show. Support comes from The Sunbathers.

24TH JULY : FIREBUG FILM CLUB – TOP GUN & POINT BREAK

We could never be accused of being boring here at Firebug, and to keep things different from the norm, our monthly film club returns with two classic action films in the form of Top Gun and Point Break.

25TH JULY : BOTTLE ROCKET PRESENTS GLEN WOOL & GUESTS

Continuing the Edinburgh Fringe previews, Bottle Rocket Comedy return with stand up comedy from Glenn Wool. Glenn is a Canadian stand-up comedian now living in the United Kingdom. His material veers between sagely political and gleefully silly. Definitely one to put in your diary.
